5, 4, 3, 2, 1 Blast Off with us
to Outer Space Week!
We began our week on Monday off in the Kids
Kitchen. We made space goo with a mixture of cornstarch and water. We loved
this sensory experience!!
We talked about rocket ships at Circle Time,
and then used different shapes to create a Shape Rocket for art.
My little munchkins used their creative
thinking skills to answer my question, “When a rocket ship blasts off, where
does it go?” I love their answers!!
Space Week gives us the best opportunity to practice
our counting down skills! We have been working on counting down from 10 to 1
and have gotten very good at it!
We also practiced our fine motor skills by
tracing straight and wavy lines connecting the rocket ship to the moon. Great
tracing!!!
We love our new room. Here are some pictures of
our favorite things this week!
On Tuesday we made moon cakes in the Kids
Kitchen. We had fun making chocolate faces in our pancakes to represent the man
in the moon. Yummy!
We talked about the moon and about astronauts
at Circle Time. We focused on the word “astronaut” and talked about other words
beginning with a short a. Afterwards, we looked for uppercase and lowercase a’s
to practice our letter identification skills.
We made moons for art, using a star sponge and
worked our fine motor control to sponge paint.
We counted stars and other shapes as a part of
a table activity. We reviewed our shape names and our rote counting skills!
We talked more about stars on Wednesday and
created an outer space scene with the help of a turkey baster. We had fun
spraying and squirting paint and also worked our pincer strength.
In the afternoon we talked about things that
are similar and worked on identifying similar shapes with this shadow activity.
We linked shadows of different space themed pictures and practiced taking
turns.
We talked about the word “twinkle,” and
discussed things that twinkle to understand this vocabulary word more in-depth.
Check out what my munchkins said…
We explored a wordless book for Circle Time on
Friday. This was a great opportunity to use our critical thinking skills, observation
skills and creative thinking as well.
We made two different art projects today! We
are beginning to explore patterns and, after discussing them at Circle Time, we
completed an ABA pattern with stars and moons.
We
also learned about constellations at Circle Time, and then made name
constellations. We peeled stickers and worked our fine motor coordination and
hand-eye coordination by placing the stickers on our name.
To complete our week, we tasted astronaut ice cream!!
We loved it!
