Giddie Up Cowboys and Cowgirls!

Howdy Y’all! Welcome to our week of Cowboys and Cowgirls!

We spent the last week focusing on what cowboys and cowgirls are, what their jobs are and what they wear.

We began our week talking about the most important cowboys, the Sheriffs! We explored the important shape they wear, the star, to identify their title. We had fun at circle time identifying our shapes.

For art, my munchkins decorated their very own Sheriff’s Star!

We made delicious banana smores in our Kids Kitchen on Tuesday! What a deliciously sticky, fun mess!

At circle time we had a great time with our old song about a Circus Clown. We changed it to be about a Cowboy Man and had fun dancing and singing together!!

Afterwards, we talked about the type of shoes cowboys wear. We took turns sorting them by size and not only practiced our mathematical classification skills, we also worked on our turn taking skills!

For art we made some special handprint horses! We talked al about the importance of horses for cowboys and also talked about the different body parts of a horse.

Check out our horsey handprints above our new cubby area!

We made Cowboy Cakes in the Kids Kitchen on Wednesday!
We made some delicious pancakes from scratch, and then added brown sugar to through a yummy twist on this traditional favorite.

We decorated cowboy handkerchiefs for art. We focused on taking our time, taking pride in our work and coloring the different pictures that were illustrated on the handkerchief.

Check us out as little Cowboys and Cowgirls!!

On Thursday we decorated our very own cowboy boots and practiced sorting the boots all on our own! We sorted them by small, medium and large categories and had a lot of fun doing it!

Check out how much fun we are having in our new room!
Our two favorite things have to be our babies and the train table!!

We learned more about the cows that cowboys work with. We talked about where milk comes from, what a baby cow is called and then “milked a cow” for art. This was a really fun sensory experience!!

We learned that cows sometimes runaway from the herd. We played a game to help our little cow folk problem solve and find their missing cow. We sang, “The cow ran away, the cow ran away, which barnyard did the cow run to?”

This was a great turn taking, problem solving and logical process provoking activity. My munchkins just loved checking behind each colored barn, naming the barn’s color and checking to see if they found the missing cow.

We had a wonderful week ya’ll. Check back next week to see how we blasted off into outer space!!
