Squiggly Wiggly Worms!

We tickled our interest in the nature around us with our focus on Worms this week!

This week we learned all about Worms! They are so fascinating and such helpful members in nature!!

We began our week off talking about how worms have no eyes, no ears and no nose. It’s a wonder that they can find their food and get around like they do.

We made dirt cups in our Kids Kitchen!! We had tons of fun crushing up cookies with a rolling pin, mixed pudding and then enjoyed!!

Delicious!!!

For art, we made fingerprint worms. We developed our mathematics skills by counting each of our worm body finger prints!

The next day we tickled our sensory bone and got to play with wiggly worm pasta! We talked about short and long and how pasta looks like wiggly worms!

We painted with our worms I mean pasta, today!! I put down glue on the paper and my munchkins got to choose their favorite color. They had tons of sensory fun!

We worked on our fine motor skills in the afternoon and attached clothespins to worm counters.

We got real worms! Most of my munchkins touched the worms and got to see their amazing digging skills!

After talking about how worms eat apples and other fruit, which is one reason why we wash our fruit before we eat it, we made handprint apples with worms.

My munchkins got their own worms and worked on their fine motor skills by attaching clothespins to them. We counted how many they each attached and then graphed our achievements.

The next day we made egg carton worms!! This was tons of fun!!

We also got to make a compost bucket!! My munchkins loved to help by eating the banana for the peel and then we added in soil and an apple core as well. We can’t wait to see what it all looks like next week!

Check back in next week to see what we are up to during our flying bug week!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

Leprechauns, Shamrocks, Rainbows and Green It must be St. Patrick’s Day!!!

This week we celebrated the upcoming holiday, St. Patrick’s Day.

We began by dying noodles green. We mixed blue and yellow food coloring to create green, then added rubbing alcohol, which keeps the noodles from getting soggy. Later in the week we used the noodles to make necklaces.
Check out our water colored giant shamrocks!! Coffee filters and water colors create the coolest effects. Not to mention the awesome artists!!

We talked all about the different things that are green around us. We used our ZooPhonics letter cards for inspiration.

To help develop our fine motor skills, we worked on attaching clothespins to shamrocks!!

We had fun with peppers, shamrock shaped cookie cutters and sponges and made some great artwork!

We created stained glass shamrocks with contact paper and tissue paper. Our favorite part was the sticky paper!!

We tried to catch our own leprechauns with a trap! We had tons of fun painting together.

My munchkins worked on our counting and numeral identification skills with our Pot O’ Gold activity. After talking about where leprechauns hide their gold we each took our own handful of gold and added it to our pot.

We got to use our green noodles and laced some fancy necklaces! We also used shamrocks to make these extra special!

The best way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day is with a party! My munchkins decorated cookies with golden lemon frosting and green sprinkles. Yummo!

Check out our cute little handprints!! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!

Caterpillars and Butterflies

Caterpillars are only one of the few creatures in the world to go through metamorphosis and completely transform in to an entirely different body structure. It is truly a remarkable mystery of nature!

This week we focused our attention entirely on the mysterious caterpillar and butterfly.

We began our week by building a grape caterpillar. It was tons of fun and a bit of a challenge to line up the rolling grapes.

Yummy!!

We talked all about the caterpillar and its life cycle.

For art we picked out pompoms and made our very own caterpillars.

In the afternoon we got to act out, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” by Eric Carle, with our caterpillars!!

We painted with colored milk! We painting a piece of bread shaped as a leaf and then added a circle cookie for the egg of the caterpillar. This was themed after, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.”

We had fun acting out the life cycle of a butterfly! We got into a ball as an egg, popped out of our egg and crawled around to eat as a caterpillar, we grew tall as a chrysalis and then got to fly around as a butterfly!

I will be adding more pictures to this post in a few days. My class did some fun activities with their substitute while I was out so I will add those later this week J
