Squirrels and Acorns are a Fall Must!!

Brown Squirrel, Brown Squirrel, Shake Your Bushy Tail!!

We were talking all about Squirrels and Acorns this week!! We explored acorns and found out a lot about them! We learned where they grow, what they look like and what squirrels do with them! Here were are looking at them in our Kids Kitchen.

We have also been celebrating the letter C this week, so we had a “C” Snack of dried cranberries and crackers!!

For art, we used acorns as a paintbrush and painted, well… acorns!!

On Tuesday in Kids Kitchen we learned a song and dance about a Brown Squirrel. Check out our skills as we stick a nut between our toes, wrinkle up our little nose and shake our bushy tails!!

We celebrated all of our letters we have studied thus far by having an “ABC” snack!! A is for apples, B is for yogurt pretzel butterflies and C is for cranberries!!

We explored our sensory skills with our art project today, pulling apart cotton balls and adding fluffy “bushy” tails to our squirrels. We painted them with glittery watercolor paint and created a squirrel masterpiece!

We have been working hard to expand our understanding of more complex patterns such as ABBA and AABA patterns. We explored them today, while reviewing our shapes!!

In the afternoon we exercised our self-control and hand-eye coordination, as well as our letter recognition skills by dotting all upper and lowercase “Cc’s.”

On Wednesday we sorted the different types of acorns we had in Kids Kitchen. We each got a few turns to sort the acorns in to three different categories!! Afterwards we counted each group and talked about which group had the most and the least!!

For art we created our own patterns with colored acorns!! My munchkins created acorn patterns that had all sorts of patterns such as ABCABC, ABBA, ABA, etc. I was proud of their creativity and loved that everyone’s pattern was so different!

We made Fall Colored Sensory Bags for art on Thursday!! I had them open their own bags, working their fine motor strength and determination!

I saw my munchkins squish, squeeze and even trace letters into the sensory bags!! They LOVE it!!

C is for crab!!

We celebrated our week’s end with a chocolate acron!! I had my munchkins open one chocolate kiss, working their fine motor and hand-eye coordination skills, and add it to a circular cookie, creating a chocolate acorn!! Yummo!

We made delicious cookies for art!! C is for cookies!!!
