Earth Day should be EVERY Day!
We learned all about where we
live and how to keep our earth clean. We had fun reusing and recycling and also
enjoyed creating things for the friends we share our earth with, birds and
other animals.
Monday was Earth Day! We had
tons of fun singing, “Happy Earth Day To You,” all day long. We baked earth
cupcakes in our Kids Kitchen.
In the afternoon our whole
class enjoyed the bright cupcakes!
For art, my munchkin's water-color painted earths with green and blue paint. We talked about the blue
green on a picture of an earth and what those colors represent.
On Tuesday we talked all about
the little creatures we must keep our earth clean for. We made “birdie snacks,”
by lacing cheerios on pipe cleaners. This was a great way to practice our fine
motor skills!
In the afternoon we hung them
outside. Hopefully some nice birds will enjoy our treats!
For art we created some great
handprint earths! We reviewed what the colors represent and many of my
munchkins remembered form yesterday!
We’ve been exploring the idea
of recycling this week and on Wednesday we created some beautiful artwork with
old newspaper. We talked about using trash for other things to “reuse” objects
and read a great book about littering called, “Michael Recycle Meets Litterbug
Doug,” by Ellie Bethel.
I asked my munchkins what they
would recycle and they came up with some very creative responses. Some
included, “my mommy, my shoes, kitties and classmates.”
We created more recycled art
on Thursday. We decorated yogurt containers and will be turning them in to bird
houses. We worked together and there was some great teamwork going on!!
Check out our garden in front
of our classroom! My munchkins are all Blooming so quickly!
On Friday we talked all about
litter bugs! We sang a song, “If you see
litter, pick it up, pick it up. If you see litter pick it up and put it in the
trash can.” We had fun throwing our own trash away while singing. Every ones
trash had the letter first letter of their name on it and my munchkins had fun identifying
their letters and simulating picking up and throwing away trash.
For art we made a fun project
with our letter of the week, the letter O! We decorated O’s with dots and in
the afternoon we added legs and eyes! They looked so cute when they were all
done!
Next week we are learning all
about Pond Life! Check out everything we do next Sunday!
